Breast Cancer Awareness 2023
October is known as the “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”. On this occasion, we wanted to make our contribution once again this year by raising awareness and educating people about breast cancer.
In collaboration with the NGO Healthy Bambini, we organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Event for women in the local community of Kokrobite (and surrounding areas). Our offers included an educational presentation on breast cancer, free screenings by qualified doctors, general health check-ups, and the distribution of free medications. As venue for the exercise, we decorated and made all necessary arrangements at our Ghana office. We distributed flyers to residents in the local area and invited them to our event. On the last Friday of October, the event took place between 12 and 4 pm. In total, 26 volunteers contributed, allowing 74 women to take advantage of free treatment.
Looking back, the event was a complete success, and we look forward to providing many women and men the opportunity for free breast screening and health checks again next year.
As an NGO we want to raise more awareness to topics that are concerning our community. This is why we cooperate with ‘healthy bambini’ during breast cancer awareness month in October to organize an educational seminar. By hosting such an event once a year, we want to create an opportunity and safe space for mothers of our students to get informed about the risks of breast cancer and its prevention. Thanks to ‘healthy bambini’ providing doctors and professional resources all participants can get a free breast screening as well as an update on their vital signs and blood pressure. Since the correct diet is also an elementary part of breast cancer prevention we offer fresh fruit salad and water as a healthy snack. After one of our events a participant knows how and why and it is important to do a self examination of the breast each month and where to reach out for medical support if one observes any signs indicating breast cancer. We believe that these events can make a great impact since the women are likely to pass on the acquired knowledge onto their daughters, sisters, friends and neighbors.

Corona/COVID-19
